Adding Koi To Your Pond

Koi are a wonderful addition to your backyard pond. It is relaxing to watch these graceful fish gliding slowly through the water. To live long and healthy life, koi need just as much care as any other pet. Koi live an average of 25-35 years, although some have lived much longer. If you want to provide the proper care and environment for your fish, you need to do some research.

Make sure you do your research before you go to buy your koi. Read through books on koi care, browse the Internet, and consult with koi experts.

Before you buy your fish, your pond needs to be properly prepared. It has to be big enough for the koi to swim around. A minimum of 1000 gallons, and 18 inches deep is recommended. The koi also need a quiet corner that they can retreat to. It is also advisable to have a number of hiding places for the fish so that they can avoid predators, such as racoon, or your neighbor's cat. The pH of the water should be between 7.5 and 8.5. Make sure that the filter has been running for a while, and that the beneficial bacteria in the pond have had a chance to establish themselves. These bacteria are important for maintaining the chemical balance of your pond once you add the fish.

It is always best to shop for your koi at a specialty store. Be sure too look for healthy fish with clear eyes, no missing scales and erect purposes. Many variables affect the price of the fish, including size, pattern, shape, and availability.T Younger fish are usually a lot less expensive than the older and larger fish. Younger fish, about 3-4 inches long will probably cost less than $ 10. Older fish, 22-24 inches long can range from $ 1200 and up, occasionally ranging up to $ 10,000. Butterfly koi are more expensive than regular koi due to their long flowing purposes.

Be sure to add fish to your pond gradually. If you put in too many, the bacteria will not be able to handle all of the fish waste, and the chemical balance of the pond will be thrown off. Start with just one or two fish, and then after a week or two, go ahead and start adding a few more. Because of their metabolism is slower in the winter, it is best to buy the fish in cooler weather if possible. Koi do just fine in cold water, but you should avoid rapidly fluctuating temperatures. Even though koi are a warm water fish who prefer water temperatures of around 78 - 80 degrees F., they are capable of surviving in freezing cold temperatures and water over 86 degrees F. Deeper ponds are also preferable, so the water underneath the ice would not freeze. If you live in an area where the pond will freeze over, be sure to use a floating heater to keep a hole in the ice.

When the weather changes for the warmer, their metabolisms will speed up. Feeding of koi is quite easy by just feeding them koi pellets which are found online or at a pet store. Make sure to feed them twice a day. With some training, it is even possible to teach koi to eat out of your hand. When the weather and the water temperature start to cool off, you want to gradually reduce the amount of food that you feed the koi. When the water temperature drops to 50 degrees, then you should stop feeding them altogether until spring, when the water warms up again.

Koi will add a brilliant splash of color to your pond. And properly cared for, they will be in your pond for a long time, and provide years of enjoyment.

Japanese Koi Fish Breeding

Koi are domesticated ornamental varieties of common carp Cyprinus carpio. They are not red, just very closely related to goldfish, and the style of breeding and ornamentation has become very similar, probably through the efforts of Japanese breeders to emulate goldfish.

If you travel to Japan and tell friends that you like koi, your friends can invite you to eat the dull gray fish inhabiting the waters of the islands as Japanese, the word simply means Koi "carp". If you say that you enjoy Koi, they May you and your camera to the pond in the garden. This article is about Nishikigoi, and uses the English word koi to refer to the color of the fish.

If a Chinese book of the Western Jin Dynasty mentions carp with different colors, breeding Koi is generally thought to have begun during the 19th century in the Niigata prefecture in Japan. Farmers who work the rice fields noticed that some carp were more brightly colored than others, they capture and breed them. This would invariably saved their lives as normally the color bright fish would be more likely eaten by birds and other predators.

By the 20th century, a number of modes of color has been put in place, including red and white Kohaku. The outside world did not realize the degree of development until 1914, when the Niigata Koi were exhibited in Tokyo. Some of them were also presented to Crown Prince Hirohito. At that time, interest in Koi exploded throughout Japan.

Nishikigoi have been called the fish of Japan. Today, Nishikigoi are high, not only in their place of origin, Niigata, but Japan, and are exported worldwide. Nishikigoi continue to gain popularity worldwide as the ultimate garden pond or fish.

As Nishikigoi have been developed in Japan, the language of Nishikigoi is Japanese. Japanese is used not only for the name of varieties, but also for many terms used to describe their traits and colors.

Koi varieties differ in color, design, and Scalata.

Kohaku are white koi with red marks. Probably the most common variety. The salvation must be deep red with well defined edges (KIWA), where he met the white must be pure and bright. A Tancho Kohaku is a white koi with a red dot on her head. Inazuma a Kohaku has a red mark from head to tail, but with variation (Inazuma means "thunderbolt"). A nidan (two) Kohaku has two red marks, a sandan (three) Kohaku three red marks and a Yondan (four) Kohaku has four red marks.

Sanke Taisho (known as sanke), salvation (red) and Sumi (black) on a white background. A maruten sanke has a red spot on the head with marks on the body. A Tancho sanke has a red dot on the head and a white body with black marks.

Showa Sanshoku (known as the Showa), red and white markings on a black background. A Showa salvation is essentially a red Showa. A kind Showa has a white ground. A Tancho Showa has a red dot on the head and a black body with white markings.

Bekko are white, red, yellow or black with koi (sumi) brands. Shiro bekko is a white koi with black marks. Aka bekko is a koi with red inscriptions in black (alias is another word for red). Ki is a koi bekko yellow with black marks (rare variety).

Utsurimono are often confused with bekko but are mostly black in white, red or yellow markings. Shiro is a koi Utsuri black with white markings. Utsuri salvation is black with red marks. Ki Utsuri is black with yellow markings (rare variety).

Asagi are blue-gray koi with red on the sides and belly and fins.

Koromo literally means "dress". This article describes the salvation, set in a darker color, which varies depending on the variety. Ai Goromo Kohaku which is a balance of blue borders. Sumi have Goromo black on the salvation of brands. Budo Goromo have sumi covering the salvation is a purple / brown.

Kawarimono welcomes all non-metallic koi that do not fall into the above groups:

Karasugoi is a black koi with white or orange belly. Hajiro is a black white koi with advice on the tail and pectoral fins. Hageshiro is a black koi with white tips to its fins and white head and nose. Kumonryu Doitsu is a koi that is black with white markings on the head, fins and body. Aka Matsuba is a red koi with black centers to its scales, creating a pine cone effect. Goshiki are white, red, black, blue and dark blue, which gives a purple. Kigoi is a yellow koi. Chagoi is a light brown / olive koi. Soragoi is a blue-gray koi. Midorigoi is a green koi. Benigoi is a deep red koi. Shiro Muji is a white koi, alias Muji is a red koi. Ochibi shigure is blue-gray-brown with a pattern.

The Hobby Koi keeping spread around the world following the dispatch of Koi became both fast and safe for fish. Koi are now sold in most pet shops, with better quality, available from fish to dealers.

Koi Fish Illness

It is a toss what poses the greatest threat to your Koi pond. If predators are in first place, the disease rank very closely.

All types of fish are subject to disease, like all life forms. Despite the fact that the Koi fish is a fish relatively robust, as are all carp, they are always sensitive to a wide range of issues. Knowing what these are and how to recognize is the first step towards its prevention and cure. The most important thing is to recognize that stress is a factor that contributes to most of the Koi pond fish disease.

When you talk about stress in fish, it has a different meaning when you talk about it as a human condition. It is not so much that the fish are concerned, but it means that something is out of harmony in their environment. Many of the factors causing stress in fish are environmental in nature. These include high levels of ammonia or low oxygen levels. Dirty or contaminated water could be a stress factor.

Other conditions causing stress are easier to control. Manipulation causes excessive stress fish as a result of overcrowding in the pond. Even factors as two many sharp edges inside the pond could be a factor. The stress in this case is the result of injury to fish contact with the edges. Parasites and bacteria will benefit from the injury to infect fish. Thus, stress may be defined in the world of the Koi pond as any condition that promotes the spread of the disease.

The main agents causing the disease are bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic. With only one or two exceptions, all bacterial infections are secondary to stressors. Bacterial infections can be treated with antibiotics. The issue nodular viral infections on raw fish and there is no real treatment except to remove scratch and hope for the best. Fungal infections are almost always the result of a secondary problem on the site of an old injury. Fungus can also attack the eggs of Koi fish. The parasites, as the famous Ich, are also possible.

Almost all bear some fish parasites, but they usually put in place a degree of resistance to them. Of course, in the presence of stress, this resistance is lowered and the fish become more sensitive. It can not be stressed enough that the less stress your Koi are exposed, the less chance they fall ill.

Fish Ponds and the Importance of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide

In each garden pond or even a simple recirculationg water, you find the life of any kind.

In this article I want to talk about what happens in garden ponds normal throughout a period of 24 hours. If you understand these basics will be a long way to make your exercise more of your pond.

Think of a pond as a collection of living creatures, fish, plants, algae, frogs, bacteria and tiny insects. All these breathe like you and me and all need oxygen (almost all). All these flora and fauna exhale carbon dioxide. Think of your pond as breathing oxygen during the day, and breathing out carbon dioxide into the night.

Carbon dioxide in a water pool the results of a number of sources, including:

1. decomposition of waste generated at the bottom of the pond

2. by breathing pond inhabitants .... fish, insects, plants, algae

Of course, all of us think first and foremost of oxygen in the pond water as essential and, of course, this is true. Carbon dioxide is also critical. The oxygen and carbon dioxide also work in concert with each other.

In simple terms as carbon dioxide increases in a pond when oxygen levels tend to decrease. This follows a natural tendency. From dawn to dusk (day) levels of oxygen in the pond increase and decrease again from dawn to dusk (night).

Carbon dioxide concentrations in water act in the opposite direction - falling during daylight hours and rising during the night. Oxygen levels are at their highest at dusk and carbon dioxide levels are highest at dawn.

Beware proliferation of algae in ponds

Dawn is the critical moment in a pond. If something goes wrong, it is often just before the first traffic light, because at this stage, the level of oxygen dissolved in water of the pond will be a minimum.

Often, people are waking up to find dead fish ... and ask what happened? These deaths could be associated with very low oxygen levels coincided with high levels of carbon dioxide. When the ponds are full of algae suspension of such problems are more likely to occur.

If there is a very small amount of algal bloom in the pond, you will find oxygen and carbon dioxide will not change significantly between early morning and late afternoon. On the other hand dense pea soup water type May showed variations important.

Impacts on the season oxygen in the water.

The first thing to realize is that oxygen concentrations are highest in winter because the water is fresh. Because oxygen concentrations are high supplemental oxygen is not so quickly exhausted during the night. The plant and animal life has also slowed significantly which means they require less oxygen.

When fish in ponds without fountains or waterfalls indifferent May consider in winter due to carbon dioxide levels to be excessive, but this is normally associated with long-term calm dull day - in these circumstances, there is no natural wave action to allow oxygen transferred to water. The problem quickly sorts itself when wind and bright weather.

In summer, water may contain much less oxygen and plant and animal life (algae) is also growing because of higher temperatures with more nutrients in the water associated with nutrition fish. Living organisms are more carbon dioxide in a potentially catastrophic situation of low oxygen. Then the fish die of suffocation.

You can measure the quantities of carbon dioxide, but not recommended.

pH and carbon dioxide

Carbon dioxide dissolved in water to form carbonic acid with a pH less than 7 if the pH will tend to fall when carbon dioxide is high. This is what happens during the night with a reversal during the day.

There is some fairly complex chemistry involved here that I'm going to ignore stress that the pond pH should ideally be around 7.0 to 8, but do not panic if it is 8.5.

In practice, this means that measuring pH can give erroneous results highly dependent time the sample is taken. If you do like to measure the properties of water can do this on an ongoing basis at the same time every day and keep a graphical representation of results so you can monitor developments. Individual results can be very misleading.

Aeration of ponds

I recommend that all ponds should be aerated using a simple fountain or waterfall at least. Many pondkeepers use an air pump with stones air. Another alternative to adding oxygen to the pond water is to use a venturi.

The aeration basin water reached two things that are both very good for pond water and fish:

1. Increase oxygen levels

2. Carbon dioxide is "blown" out of the water which tends to raise the pH levels.

Remember what Nigel Caddock, one of the best UK koi keepers is very committed to say. There should be 3 things in a pond: water, fish and air. Add plants to the list.

Aeration also protects against algae and dying - when they die they rot and release carbon dioxide using the resources of oxygen in the water.

In summary, it is difficult to over-aerate a pond aeration and has all the advantages serial keeping fish. The disadvantage is the cost of a ventilation pump. All top koi ponds air bubble as well as their filters.

Deeper without waterfalls and ponds or fountains as the means to create or mixture outstanding during periods of calm could be more prone to problems of carbon dioxide.

Aeration and mixing of water (waterfalls) are the most effective methods to control the potential of carbon dioxide problems.

Conclusion:

Do not be too concerned, but beware make algal blooms (green or brown cloudy water), especially in summer and especially during periods of calm and when there is no waterfall, fountain or aeration. Installing a fountain of water or at the very least, if you keep fish in a pond garden.

Remember the best way to prevent the proliferation of algae is with a UV light.

Pond Filters, When & Why

Pond Filters are necessary pieces of equipment when you intend to keep any type of living organism in your garden pond. Pond Filters man are an alternative to the forces of nature and can not be overlooked when it comes to the pond fish of all kinds. Garden pond filters whether goldfish, shubunkins, orfe, koi carp or other fish pond to a very important function in ponds eco-system.

Pond filters are houses for millions and billions of beneficial bacteria that aid to security and safe disposal of toxic gases such as ammonia (ammonium) and nitrite that can quickly overcome your fish, in the end account of their death. Pond filters convert these toxic gases soluble nitrate, which, if necessary easily feed your pond plants with the nutrients they need for growth.

Pond filters usually work on three main principles of the mechanics of waste management, bacterial action on the waste and also some chemicals / ultraviolet on the amendment of pond water for algae control. The best pond filters use all the methods mentioned above to give an almost gin clear water of the pond.

Pond filters are specific to each basin. We must never take for granted that just because the box tells you that the pond filter is the correct size for your pond, it will be tailored to your needs. Other issues should be taken into account, some of these include the types of fish to be kept, the distance above the pond surface water that the filter may be located, the type of pond pump combination necessary to maintain the pond filter at its optimum level of functioning.

This author does strongly recommend you seek a pond filter reputation buy or better yet, find a professional pond filter installation company to assist you with your garden pond filter needs. In our experience, we have found in 90% of the pond filters installed by our customers are not sufficient for the purposes intended.

When the pool filters should be installed? In response to this question, I propose that the best time to adapt to the pond filter is when they are obviously necessary, whether in the middle of winter or not. The only time we suggest not to install a pond filter during the summer months with regard to filtering systems pond. In other words the system upgrades filtering pond must be avoided during the months of June, July and August. It was during this period that the colony of bacteria in the pond filter is at its maximum and should not be disturbed other than adding a filter independent pond with water quality.

Pond new filters normally take between 6 to 8 weeks to be mature enough with bacteria to be able to support small fish stocks. The longer a pond filter has been implemented as livestock, it can support up to his optimum level. We strongly suggest that you discuss these limits with a reputation for sale.

Angel Fish A Great Addiction To Any Tropical Fish Tank

Angelfish is one of the most beautiful and beautiful fish. Because of their exceptional beauty, they became the most popular fish among all holders of fish in the world. Angelfish is a fish that is found in the river slowly flowing waters of America. It is perhaps the most recognizable beautiful fish available. Angelfish is a member of the cichlid family and is available in various colors as black, silver, gold and a combination thereof. They have a compressed cylindrical body which distinguishes it from other fish. With its long dorsal fin and became a favorite among the holders of fish.

Aside from research, there are several other factors that promote Angelfish to be one of the best choices among more fish guards. Angelfish is one of the easiest spawning fish to reproduce. It is very easy to feed Angelfish, they can live only on food as flakes, but it is always advisable to keep them on different foods. Brine shrimp, black worms, and mosquito larvae are all major food Angelfish. Frozen blood to help maintain the varied diet live where food is not available.

To keep Angelfish, you need a 30-gallon aquarium or large, depending on the number and size of fish. Going in aquarium angel to always keep in mind that you have gravel that is at least 1 / 4 inch thick and Aquarium is at least 24 inches deep. The deeper the reservoir is the largest angel fish will grow. You will need to maintain the temperature of the water from the aquarium around 70-80 - Fahrenheit.

Although Angelfish is delicate in appearance, but they are reasonably hardy species. At angelfish are sometimes very violent, so while keeping the small fish in the tank, take into account this factor.

Apart from this, angelfish are supposed to be one of the most intelligent fish and they always go together and have the ability to recognize the fish keeper. In general keeping an Angelfish tank is a big plus for the beauty of your home. Angel fish tanks are easy to maintain and joy you have in the maintenance of all Angelfish is long term, if what you seek, go order a tank Angelfish

Goldfish Breeding, Part 2

Fry Development

In the previous article we talked about fish farming laying of the first through 2 -3 months. This article will focus on the development of 3 - 6 months of age.

When goldfish reach the age of 3 months, about 2 to 3 culls have taken place. The initial culling is carried out to remove the fish that have obvious deformities, or do not meet the general requirements race. The slaughter of these steps can be given to people who want to fish, pet, children in the neighborhood, or humanely destroyed. I prefer to give fish, and there appears to be a market of people who would like fish. This process usually takes a little longer, but makes people happy and save fish.

By the age of three months, body and style finnage begin to take their final form. Color will begin to take shape, and although the metal fish can take up to a year for staining to occur. Characteristics of the race (as head of growth, eyes, etc.) will begin to develop.

A fourth slaughter must be carried out at about 4 - 5 months to select the fish to be raised by the deadline. On a clutch of several hundred to several thousand fish, no more than 5 - 10 fish should be maintained for final grow-out. There are several reasons for this low percentage of fish that are selected for grow-out. The main reason is space, it is simply not enough space to raise all the fish are spawned. If not given enough space, the fish will not grow to optimal size. The second reason is the food: raising a large number of fish requires a lot of food. The third reason is water quality, proper maintenance of water is difficult face of big fish. The last reason is genetic: Most fish will have some sort of defect or undesirable feature to display.

By the age of six months, fish are much race variety, but not all the characteristics of the variety will be fully developed yet. Finally, the fish look like their parents.

Goldfish Breeding, Part 1

Each year, as the days lengthen in spring, yellow maturity begin the process of egg production in females, and milt in males. Many of these changes are increasingly triggered by daylight and warmer water temperatures. The availability of increased food production in the form of bloodworm and mosquito larvae, if the goldfish live outdoors adds to the evolution of fish.

The changes that occur in goldfish include swelling of the general female, the eggs begin to grow, and the appearance of small bumps, or "root" on the edges of the pectoral fins, and the slip covers for men.

In warmer climates, May goldfish outdoor begin spawning at the end of April, but in most other areas, red fish begin spawning in May or June. In many cases, fry without apparent indications, especially if the fish are kept in a pond, and a mixed population. For fish kept in aquariums, the signs are present, if the fish is observed.

Spawning takes place early in the morning, usually just before sunrise. Spawning activity appears to be triggered by several factors, including: rain on the day preceding the spawning and a drop in water temperature a few degrees, partial water changes and a full or nearly full moon.

Spawning generally last several hours, and thousands to tens of thousands of eggs are laid, depending on the size of the female. Eggs are generally very small, round and sticky. Please see table below taken eggs in an aquarium interior, to get an idea of the size and remove shape. Please adult fish after spawning, if you want more babies. Adults eat fish eggs (and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia) after a spawn. Baby fish, once admitted, will not be eaten by fish red at maturity. Fish generally recognize babies once they reach ½ "to 1" in size.

The eggs hatch usually from 4 - 7 days, depending on water temperature. The fry are very small at the time of hatching, and food for the first 3 -5 days in the yellow bag attached. At hatching, and for a period of about two weeks after hatching, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia remains committed to the surface where the eggs were laid, or near the water surface. As their swim bladder begins to operate, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia will start swimming at different levels of the aquarium.

After the fry have depleted their yolk sacks, you should start to feed their food. Start foods can include: newly hatched brine shrimp, boiled egg yolk and infusorians. For people who have an outdoor pool, food can supplement the food that the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia is in the pond. For those who have housed the fish in an aquarium, food will be provided by the owner.

After a few weeks, crumbled flake food, small fry food, freeze-dried crumbled into the blood, daphnia and brine shrimp can be fed to fishing. During the early development phase, feed the fish several times a day (may-3 - 5 times a day) in small quantities. It is important to monitor water quality and make regular water changes, as certain foods (especially egg yolk) can lack of water.

Metal fish begin to color, which is to change the nature of the green, 2 - 3 months. For nacreous mat and fish, colors tend to deepen as the fish mature. More nacreous Matte fish and start out with a white color, with reds, blacks, oranges and blues developing age fish.

If you are raising fry breeding or show, you should select the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia that meet characteristics that you have established in your breeding. Fry with deformities such as missing fins, tail tripod (in the case of two varieties tail), and other physical defects can be eliminated or given starting at 6 - 7 weeks. The practice of selecting fish with certain characteristics, is known as the "slaughter".

A second slaughter may occur at 8 - 10 weeks and will focus on color and adherence to high standards. 3rd slaughter may be done 3 months, when most fish will begin to meet the special races, such as growth of the head, eyes, development, pearl and scales. It is not uncommon for only 5 - 10% of a rogue to stay third after the slaughter. While some people oppose the idea of giving fish spawn or slaughter, goldfish will not thrive in crowded conditions. The practice of reducing the population size is necessary for goldfish development and quality.

That approach fish 2 - 3 months of age, try to feed a larger percentage of live animals, frozen or freeze-dried food. Increasing the protein content in food is necessary for growth and head pearl scales in particular. Avoid food supply floating, which, while good for koi, and not very useful for red fish, especially the double-bodied fish tail. Continued feeding of food because the floating goldfish to ingest large quantities of air, May and disturb fish balance. Sinking pellets or granules of food can be fed at 2 -3 months as a supplement to live or frozen foods.

For those interested to make their own food, several goldfish food recipes are available, both online and GFSA (Goldfish Society of America) articles. Books such as The Goldfish Guide by Matsui also included revenue home.

A final culling can be achieved in six months, which will be conducted to select fish to grow and survive the winter. This selection will be based on a combination of compliance with standard guidelines, color and overall confirmation. At the end of the 4th slaughter, it is likely that only 1 - 2% of laying remain, and that the fish selected will be exceptional.

Koi - The Jewels Of The Pond

With their striking colors, beautiful shape, and graceful movements, Koi are considered the jewels of the pond. From humble beginnings as wild carp, these fish have been domesticated and bred in the famous beauties they are today. Once owned by the rich, are now Koi loved and kept in garden ponds across the world. As the owner of a pond or future Koi enthusiast, you want May to learn to say the fundamental differences between the thirteen types of Koi and distinguish a fish of high quality from a regular, colorful one.

Koi, or Nishikigoi as the Japanese call them, are more than 100 different varieties, but were reduced to thirteen major groups, as indicated above. They are as follows: Kohaku, Sanke-Taisho, Showa-Sanshoku, Bekko, Utsurimono, Asagi Shusui, ogon, Koromo, Hikari-Moyomono, Hikari-Utsurimono, Kawarimono, Kinginrin and Tancho. It is difficult to connect all types of Koi at the beginning, but with practice and determination it will become easier.

Before you can begin to classify Koi you must first know the basic body shape and anatomy of fish. A Koi is usually bilateral symmetrical. What does this mean? If you were to draw a line along the dorsal (upper) end of the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail, the shape of two pieces are the same. Although this is a good character, it is a must in any event Koi.

Like most carp, Koi have barbells, a dorsal fin, pectoral fins, pelvic fins, an anal fin and a tail (tail) end. If a Koi is missing either of these it is considered abnormal and of poor quality.

The head of the fish should be the normal proportion of the body. It should not be very long or short. The mouth should be lower, which means it opens from the bottom, like most fish scavenger.

Now that you know a Koi basic body shape and requirements, you can learn about color variations.

The best known is the Koi Kohaku. Kohaku has light skin (Koi have two basic colors skin, white and blue) with red marks. This is the simple variety to the place and without doubt the most beautiful. A good quality milk white skin and deep red ground. The most admired model is the springboard modes-3-5 red mark resembling a rock track.

Then there's the Taisho Sanke-or short Sanke. It has the same color variation Kohaku (white with red markings) with a third black, a color less obvious. A high quality Snake will be red (with any other color) on his head and an interesting pattern of red and black.

The third is the Showa-Sanshoku, Showa short. It's the same three colors that distinguish Sanke. However, black is the background color and there are red and white it. Showa an ideal has deep black marks and an interesting pattern of red and white.

The Bekko is two color with small black on top of another white, yellow and red are the most common. There are many kinds of Bekko's. The standard is the Bekko-Shiro (white to black.)

Two other colored Koi is the Utsurimono. Like the Bekko, it is black and another color. But black is the main color and there are spots or marks another white, red and yellow.

The Asagi Shusui skin is a blue Koi with white edges and red on the gills, stomach and pectoral fins. They look neat and Germany (Doitsu) scales. The German scales are generally more or imitation leather (not at all scales.)

Koromo are blue with fish scales. There are different types of Koromos such as Aigoromo and Sumigoromo. Koromo The word comes from the word garment. This fish looks like she wears a blue veil wide net or on top of its colors.

A ogon is a Koi with a metallic luster. They are generally white or gold. They must have only one color and have the Doitsu scales. A good ogon is robust with a beautiful muscular structure.

Another is the metallic Koi Hikari-Moyomono. They are a race of the Ogoni and have more than one color.

The Hikari-Utsurimono Koi is a metal which is a cross between the Ogoni and the Showa. They have the color of a Showa-black as the main color, with red and white, but the marks are as bright ogon.

Kinginrin are a shining bright Koi. Do not confuse with ogon which are metallic. Kinginrin have a sparkle in each scale, but not all. They may be with the flash of gold or silver. Koi for an award, it must be at least 20 shiny scales. These are very low Koi Dark ponds because of their exceptional visibility.

Koi are the Tancho with Hi (red) patch on their head. The patch can not be connected to other brands and should be contrasted with a white skin. It can not cover the eyes and is only recognized on the Kohaku, Sanke and Showa variations.

The last variation of Koi is the Kawarimono. In simple terms, they are Koi that do not correspond to any other category. This category was invented in order to sell and shows. Although they are not worth as twelve other varieties, these Koi are very beautiful and an addition to any collection.

These are changes recognized Koi. There is also the butterfly or a fine of Koi. They have abnormally, yet beautiful long fins. This category is not recognized by the Japanese in Koi shows. In the United States, this type is high and sold in large quantities. They are a gracious and welcomed family member Koi.

If you are interested, including those in single fish pond in your garden or willing to learn and keep them as a hobby, it is always good to be able to identify each type of Koi. This will not only help you make an informed decision when purchasing your new friends, but it will also help you appreciate the diversity of Koi even more. Some say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I say beauty is in the eye of the holder Koi!

Time For a Vacation - But Who Will Feed the Fish?

The first order of business should be to find how to feed fish during your absence. May you be surprised to discover that the fish can survive for long periods of time (several weeks) without food. In nature, fish can not always find food on a regular basis, so they have adapted to live in conditions of scarcity. If you are only going away for a week or two, feeding your fish is not necessarily something you have to worry about. In fact, when you come home from the aquarium May be cleaner than when you left because the fish produced little waste during your vacation.

Automatic

Many people are afraid to leave their fish without food for a long period of time, no matter what experts say. That is when a feeder of food comes in handy. These devices are designed to free food at specified intervals automatically. Machines are affordable and you can use throughout the year. Fish for Beginners

While requiring a good level of commitment and maintenance, freshwater aquariums, a big hobby for potential pet owners. While fish care can be very detailed and complex, there are some useful tips for beginners, to the maximum benefit from an aquarium, preserving the health and longevity of the fish.

There are two basic types of freshwater aquariums: Community tanks tanks and species.

Species tanks contain a type of species and is often used for a species that requires special conditions tank. This type of tank is not recommended for beginners.

The other type, community tanks, it is recommended for beginners because there are several species of fish, live together peacefully in an environment. This is not just a better situation for viewing several species of fish, but in general, the tank is easier to take care of, because all of the fish should require similar, "typical" tank conditions.

The selection of compatible fish for your community freshwater tank is of crucial importance for the promotion of health and general well-being of your fish. For beginners, there are many types to choose from, and a good general rule is the mixing of three basic types of fish - topwater, midwater and bottom. By choosing fish from each of these types, you are again, which of course.

Topwater fish:

Topwater fish spend most of their time in the upper levels of the tank. A few easy to maintain species that are good for beginners are: Guppy, Black Molly, Zebra Danio and Siamese fighting fish (only one male per tank).

Midwater fish:

Midwater fish spend most of their time in the middle levels of the tanks, and most of these fish are best suited, in groups of at least 5 or 6 Some midwater fish, good for beginners: neon tetra, Angel Fish, Blue Fish and thread.

Bottom fish:

Bottom fish spend most of their time at the bottom of the tanks, which normally tank cleaner. They eat algae and can help your tank clean. A few bottom fish are good for beginners: Red-tailed Shark, Corydoras Catfish and Plecostomus.

In addition to mixing of the three basic types, there are some other general useful tips. Schooling fish, for example, should be kept in groups of at least 5 or 6, and aggressive fish should be avoided for beginners. Fish with special water condition is necessary to be avoided by beginners or those who are community tanks.

A little should be examined before they become a pet shop. It is important to know which species are compatible with your aquarium.

How Much Should You Feed Your Pet Fish?

When your feeding your fish the most important thing is not having much of it sitting on your substrate at the end of a session of food. If, in your case you have floating around food and sitting on your substrate, and fish are not eating more, then you are much to food. One of the easiest things to change when feeding your pet fish aquarium is to ensure that food is similar to the size of your pet fish mouth. For example, if you have small fish like guppies, platys, mollies, neon lights of all kinds, fish along these dimensions, it does not make sense to feed a snowflake the size of a quarter Does it now.

So if you fish along these formats is that your snowflake should be the size of a dime or so. Once you get past the first hurdle, which is the size of your diet should be, then comes the next hurdle of how long you have to feed them for food at a session. How can I judge it is I see the amount of food fish can eat without it hitting the substrate. So if you eat your fish and food is just reaching the substrate then immediately get your eating in good shape. After I do this little test of its proximity to the substrate food can fall before eating so I'll wait about 30 seconds before adding more food. This is so the fish can get what in their mouth already, where more food into the water they can eat all before it falls into the substrate where if not eaten, pollute water in the tank.

How Many Pond Fish Are Too Many?

devoting time, effort and resources in the garden pond of water to developing? If so, when after all the hard work required. Effort to create a pond and please, but it's your time now to invest in fish, please.

This is the most exciting part of the overall project. Before you run to buy a selection of fish, many fish need to know about how the need to include a pond, many are too many fish and how.

In fact, several factors should make a decision before the amount of fish in the pond is necessary. A couple of factors must be taken into account the size of the fish, you have a gallon of water in the pond, as the pond is how powerful filters.

The formula to help, you can use in making the decision. For example, the standard formula appears per square foot of pond water into a single case, 1-inch fish. Using this formula, 100 (100)-inch fish is 10 square feet for the pond.

This formula is easy to use, but this formula is not the fish waste to be considered. One fish - three of the 12-inch is equivalent to a four-inch fish, I say, outdated. This calculation is wrong, it weighs about 12-inch fish, just 475 grams and three of the four-inch fish, weighing about 29 grams immediately.

Is a huge difference! I consider it the most suitable for fish waste, can be generated each day. You must be hardened hearts need to take into account that nearly one-third of production daily. Is approximately 158 grams of waste each day the fish pond, what kind of filter from a 12-inch fish.

This means that if you have just a small or medium-sized pond, buy a lot of great things, many small fish are some big fish. But consider the case of small fish in the pond, a certain overload it must have too many fish.

Do see three feet of space in the pond, or you can include 10 to 60 inches of actual goldfish. Make sure the filter is powerful and tough on the pond. Play a large role in the life of the filter of your fish.

More popular in the rules, you can use instead of an old-fashioned. This rule is love fish, some experts frequently used. This rule is one square feet of space, must be present 1 / 2 "love. 12-inch four love can include 10 × 10-foot fish in the pond at home. You Must also take into consideration that much in love grow a goldfish, and BITTOMESHIE the goldfish from Tad.

If you are lucky, your new house is a pond, fish pond, never overload all at once too many. Overloading the pond filter, the destruction of nature, the increase in ammonia spikes, and increase the risk of killing all your new fish.

Best added that the fish pond sparingly. Only one or two possible to include a new fish and fish to adjust to the pond near two weeks or more before adding the fish pond. Pond in the environment for the system to assign a must.
